Baalang Millingbaloo Bugan
(Young Women Paint Up On Country)
Wearable Art @ Giiyong Festival
We are inviting Aboriginal women aged 16 – 25 from Bega and Eden regions to take part in 3 cultural workshops and a presentation at Giiyong Festival on 9 November 2024. There are 10 spaces only. There is no charge to take part but participants are expected to attend all sessions and Giiyong Festival.
Baalang Millingbaloo Bugan is a unique cultural experience for young women to come together, learn and participate in a contemporary bunaan at Giiyong Festival 2024. Showcasing the blackcellence of our strong culture and empowering our deadly women, the bunaan will display a variety of wearable art made by Indigenous designers and participants alike.
This is an opportunity for young Yuin women to connect with cultural knowledge, learn some local language and participate in sacred women's practices that have been passed down through generations. We are offering up to 10 young women the opportunity to not only make their own wearable art from natural resources, but also model their pieces for the showcase at Giiyong Festival.
The team will take participants through the process of making such art pieces and will equip them with the modelling skills to feel confident, comfortable, and proud when showcasing their art and language to their community.
Emma Stewart and Ashweeni Mason from Marra-Wanggan, along with Bee Cruse, will be running 3 workshops at Jigamy (Eden), across September and October, leading up to Giiyong Festival in on 9 November.
Women interested in modelling, fashion and cultural art and jewellery making are encouraged to apply.
If you, or anyone you know, would like to be a part of this amazing opportunity, please reach out to the team before 16 September 2024. Applications have now closed. If you are really keen contact Bee or Jazz on the numbers below for a yarn,
