Docker River Band hail from Kaltukatjara (Docker River) close to the border of NT and WA in the central desert (APY Lands). This small remote community, 230km west of Uluru, is surrounded by cliffs and water holes, horses, gum trees and thriving greenery, clumps of spinifex and endless amounts of red earth and bird life.
The people are proud and have bountiful amounts of passion for music and culture, which provides inspiration for their songs.
The Docker River Band is the pick of the bunch from a breed of musicians who could hold their own on any professional stage, and bring a unique sound only found in the central desert region of Australia.Their style of music is desert reggae, with an extremely tight rhythm section featuring drummer Dion Bell’s fast high hats that will blow any drummers mind, Peter Bennett’s bass lines from unchartered lands, keys by the one and only Thaddeus Brady and alluring and dreamy vocals by band leader, Roy Jugadai.
All original songs in local language, Pitjantjatjara.
With support from the wonderful Grow the Music team, these talented men will leave their wives and children for their maiden 10 day tour, appearing as special guests at Giiyong Festival, and following up with a performance at Smith’s Alternative in Canberra.
